Think your band has what it takes to rock the U.P. and claim ultimate musical glory? Then grab your gear, bring your A-game, and get ready to shred! But first—some official rules to keep things fair (and to prevent total chaos).
 

1️⃣ Eligibility:
 

• Open to all bands, duos, and solo acts who can bring the noise and wow the crowd!

• All genres welcome! Yes, even polka. Even experimental jazz fusion. Even cowbell-only acoustic sets. (But, uh, good luck with that.)

• Employees of Sunshine Motel & Cabins may not enter. Besides, they are out of your league. You wouldn’t stand a chance against Jim’s one-man accordion-metal band.

• EXCEPTION: Bigfoot may participate, but only if he finds a band willing to let him in (and only if he promises not to smash the drum kit in excitement).
   

2️⃣ Entry & Spot Confirmation:
 

• Spots are limited! You must sign up by June 15th to secure a place in the competition.

• Bands will be notified if they make the lineup, so don’t just show up expecting to play—we run a tight ship here!

• There is no entry fee, but a $25 donation is suggested to support the Ontonagon County Cancer Association (because rocking out AND supporting a good cause is legendary).
   

3️⃣ The Competition:
 

• Each band will perform one set (exact time limit to be announced).

• A mix of judges & audience votes will decide the winners—so bring your fans, bribe your grandma, and maybe train your dog to cheer on cue.

• Setups are on the musician—you bring your own instruments and any extra gear you need. (No, we do not provide “extra strings” for when your bassist inevitably breaks one.)

• A stage will be provided, but sound equipment is minimal—so plan accordingly and turn it up to 11.

• A DJ will play between sets to keep the energy high while bands set up. (He takes requests, but only if you Venmo him snacks.)
   

4️⃣ Prizes & Glory:
 

🏆 1st Place: $350 + a guaranteed gig at the 2026 Lights Over the Lake! (Congratulations, you just got booked a year in advance!)

🥈 2nd Place: $100 (Gas money for the ride home—or half a tank, at least.)
🥉 3rd Place: $50 (Enough for celebratory pasties!)
🔥 Total Prize Pool: $500!
 

5️⃣ Rock ‘n’ Roll Conduct:
 

• Keep it family-friendly—this is a community event! That means no explicit lyrics, no microphone drop-kicking, and definitely no setting guitars on fire. (Unless you’re willing to pay the fire department’s “What Did You Just Do?!” fee.)

• No pre-recorded backing tracks—this is live music, not an elaborate game of air guitar.

• Bands must play actual instruments—yes, we have to say this. No “air drum solos” unless you’re really convincing.

• Have fun, bring the energy, and make some noise for Ontonagon!
